Description

The V&A Waterfront as founded in 1654 by Jan van Riebeeck who was charged to build a fort and plant cereals fruit and vegetables. Van Riebeeck and his troops docked at and the current V&A Waterfront and started off with a small jetty as part of his mission to build a refreshment station for the Dutch-East India Company. On 7 September 1860, His Royal Highness Prince Alfred commenced the construction of Cape Town's first harbour. Today V&A Waterfront has over 450 retail outlets, more that 80 eateries and exciting activities ranging from helicopter flights to historical walking tours. Accommodation sites such as the Victoria & Alfred Hotel making it easy to understand the past of the world's most famous working harbour.
