About Birds of Eden

A world class free-flight bird sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay, Birds of Eden is a two hectare dome situated in an indigenous forest that is a really amazing place to visit for an interesting experience among these winged creatures. The Birds of Eden is the largest dome in the world. The aviary consisted of only 220 birds in 2010 and is now has grown significantly, now housing over 3,500 birds of more than 280 species in its safe environment. The birds found here are a mixture of exotic and also African birds, some of which were previously caged pets who were rehabilitated beforehand. Most of the birds are not afraid of visitors and seem tame - this is especially the case with the parrots of which there are over 60 various species. This habitat allows birds of all species to find their own way and their instincts are very impressive - when a new bird enters into the sanctuary, it almost immediately find its kind and is able to settle where it feels most comfortable and soon finds its water and food. Enjoy the large amphitheater, a restaurant and souvenir shop, a number of ponds and dams as well as the astounding natural beauty of the indigenous forest which makes up 70% of the area. Open daily from 8 am to 5 pm.
