Enjoy the ultimate extreme adventure beach by paying a visit to Dungeon Beach at Hout Bay Harbour, considered one of the country’s most extreme surf beaches and accessible only by a 15 minute boat ride from Hout Bay’s stunning and famous harbour. Only suitable for the brave of heart and seekers of the ultimate surfing challenges, Dungeon bay beach is one of the chosen venue’s for the world renowned Red Bull Big Wave Africa Contest which takes place annually in winter, where the world’s most excellent national and international surfers take part (by invitation only) and determine who is crowned the champion. Of course, from the sidelines it might not seem as daunting but the cold water, hazardous conditions and unpredictable waves of this beachfront have earned Dungeon Beach a notorious yet alluring reputation among water sport enthusiasts, not only in Cape Town but all over. The beach is made up of shallow open reefs and high impact zones, and it is recommended that this area only be utilized for surfing or water sports by groups of professionals and never alone. It is not unusual for surfers to seek out the thrill of big waves along jagged cliffs and rocky edges, but Dungeon Beach is really only enjoyed by well-seasoned groups of surfers.
