Chapmans Peak Drive

One of the most outstanding and beautiful drives in Cape Town and the whole world, this drive is well known and loved among both locals and tourists, Chapman’s Peak drive was constructed during the First World War and is considered a remarkable roadwork’s achievement. The surrounding scenery of the famous Chapman’s Peak drive is made up of 9 km’s of winding scenic road that leads from Hout Bay to Noordhoek, operating as a toll road where toll fees are paid at entry points. The pass is built on top of a layer of granite that was cut into the soft rocks above, with protective netting keeping stray rocks or stones from falling onto cars. As one of the most scenic drives in the world, Chapman’s Peak or “chappies” as it is affectionately known to locals, offers steep mountain views on the one side and the rocky coastline views on the other side, which are beautiful to behold at any time of day. With some 114 curves and edges, this road is one offering many magical moments and awe-inspired spots to stop and snap up photos that will capture something truly special. From Chapman’s Point, views of the breathtaking sandy bay and Atlantic Ocean can be admired. Chapman’s Peak has long since been a top tourist attraction in Cape Town and is also an alternative access route between the city of Cape Town and the South Peninsula.
