The Companys Garden

The Company Gardens is a stunning park and heritage site that is located in the city centre of Cape Town, and has been in existence from the 1650's, when European settlers would grow fresh produce here to replenish passing ships. This well loved Garden is now home to the Iziko Museum and National Gallery, as well as some historic statues placed throughout the gardens many paths. If you happen to be visiting around lunch time, you can expect to come across many interesting locals who work in the city and seek the calm, fresh garden air whenever possible. The garden is also home to many active and happy squirrels, who love to play and be fed. You will also find some beautiful trees and natural displays during your visit- the rose garden (which was built in 1929), South Africa's oldest cultivated pear tree, and also a lovely herb garden, fish pond and an aviary. There are little markets set up along the way, selling crafts and snacks - or you can grab a coffee at a nearby cafe. To enjoy time spent at the Garden, pack a picnic and enjoy an afternoon in the lovely natural surroundings with your family and friends, or enjoy lunch at the Company's Garden Restaurant.
