About Castle Of Good Hope

Built between 1666 and 1679, the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, is the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa. The Fort de Goede Hoop was built as a nautical replenishment hub on the shore of Table Bay by Cape Town's founding father Jan Van Riebeeck in 1652 and was constructed of mud, and timber and its. Fort de Goede Hoop was later outmoded by the Castle of Good Hope. the establishment which was initially occupied by the Governor of the time, was later handed to the defense force for military purposes and today still serves as the military seat as well as a museum filled with artifacts of its era. In 1936, the Castle of Good Hope was declared an historical monument, and it is also known as the best preserved example of a Durch East India Company Fort,
