How does the idea of a music festival on the beach sound to you? Since 2011, the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve on the West Coast has hosted Jazz on the Rocks, an exciting event featuring a line-up of some of the best jazz acts from home and abroad. Taking place for 4 days on Tietiesbaai, a natural amphitheatre on the coast within the nature reserve, audience members can enjoy a wonderful treat with a blend of class acts and amazing views of the ocean. The event has been so successful that it has resulted in another Jazz on the Rocks, which took place in Plettenberg Bay earlier this year.

The next instalment of this event in Tietiesbaai takes place next year from February, the 23rd to the 27th, Thursday to Monday. Why are we telling you now? Simply because the organisers have requested for bookings to made as early as the 27th of June 2016, which is less than 10 days from now (or until tickets are sold out)! Plus the booking process will require the attention of everyone in your group who wants to go. Now that you know timing is important, read on to find out more about this exciting festival.

What you can expect

This year’s line-up consisted of nearly 20 outstanding acts, featuring the likes of Alistair Izobell, Emo Adams, Rudimentals, The Rockets, Sax Appeal, Andrew Young, Uncle Cal, Blaqpearl, Hotbox and more. This means that if you’re looking to be entertained, you can expect 4 days of sweet jazz performances out on the beach in blazing summer weather.

While you enjoy the music on offer, any event on the West Coast would not be the same if you did not get to experience the culture of this beautiful region of the Western Cape. Various food stalls will be available, offering you the best of the traditional fare of the area while you can quench your thirsts at the popular Tietie Bar, stationed on the beach. As it is aimed to be a family-friendly event, visitors can take part in various beach activities, including games and much more, perfect for even the little ones.

The information below explains how the costs work.

The booking process

1. Send an email to admin@jazzontherocks.co.za, mentioning the number of passes you require.
2. You will get the following in response:
   a. Weekend Pass holder registration form – to be completed by all pass holders.
   b. A quote and banking details
3. Once they have received proof of payment from you (via email only), your access passes will be confirmed.
4. Please note that you will need to email the proof of payment by 15:00 (3 pm) on the due dates.
5. Payments are to indicate the reference number.

Payment options

1. You are to pay the full amount or a 30% non-refundable deposit by 27 June 2016 or before all passes are sold out.
2. Full payment via EFT will not increase the cost (hence, you would pay only R 600 and R 300 respectively).
3. The 30% deposit secures the weekend pass. An administrative cost of R 100 is required as well in this case (hence, the cost increasing to R 700 and R 400 respectively).
4. Cash transactions carry an additional 10% handling fee per transaction, with R 100 being the maximum charge per transaction.
5. For those who opt for the deposit, the balance of the payment is expected by 31 January 2017.

Additional information

Those who attend this event need to sign an acceptance of the nature reserve’s rules and regulations. Your ID number will be required. Please make sure everyone in your group signs the form.

The organisers have prohibited the use of glasses on the beach. Make sure to bring plastic goblets or tumblers.
