Lovers of good food and fine wine, here is an annual event well worth your time: the Hermanus Wine and Food Festival, taking place in the appealing town of Hermanus, in the Overberg Region of the Western Cape. If you don’t know yet, the country of South Africa can proudly boast to be producing some of the finest wine throughout the world and this festival will be taking place in the province that is famous for its multitude of wine estates, found on many scenic wine routes throughout.
This event, presented by the popular local wine shop of Wine Village in Hemel en Aarde and voted one of the top 10 wine festivals in the country, brings together nearly 50 of the best wine producers, from Elgin to Elim. With wine tasting, stalls and a play area for the kids, this festival is one that the entire family can enjoy. Since it takes place in the winter season, it offers a wonderful opportunity to warm up with the sumptuous, top-class wines of the Western Cape. The Hermanus Wine and Food Festival will take place at the Curro Private School in Sandbaai, Hermanus, from Saturday, the 6th of August, to Monday, the 8th of August.
Wine connoisseurs can spend hours exploring the wines on offer from various producers. Many of them have firmly established themselves in the history of wine making in South Africa. Besides all the wine you can taste, various stalls will be available for those bite-sized snacks to have at the festival or to take home with you. The numerous items you can buy from these stalls include biltong, cakes, freshly baked breads, handmade chocolates, olives, organic cheese, seafood dishes, roasted sugar-coated nuts, samosas, and the offerings of Pomegranate Products, Piroschka’s Kitchen and more.
However, if you’re looking for a more substantial meal, you can visit one of the top quality restaurants in the little area of Hemel en Aarde and indulge in their dishes that have helped to establish Hermanus as a wonderful holiday destination.
For the kids, a separate area will be available for them, with fun activities and events including a jumping castle, face painting, puppet shows and more.
Entrance to the festival costs R 50 for adults and is free for children under the age of 12. Besides granting entry, this ticket additionally includes free parking. For the wine tasting section, entrance costs R 100, with the ticket including a tasting glass as well as an all-inclusive wine festival catalogue. Please note that attendees have to be 18 years or older to take part in the wine tasting.
